The Special Recreation Division offers positive and healthy recreation programming focused on leisure, social, educational, and vocational opportunities within the community for individuals with special needs with a team of talented, dedicated, knowledgeable, and experienced staff.  Programming also includes the largest south suburban community of Special Olympics in the state of Illinois with over 300 participants.  Our special recreation staff are committed to meeting the unique individual leisure time needs and positively impacting the lives of individuals with special needs every day by focusing on community outreach and reintegration.  

 

We are currently seeking One on One Inclusion Aides for a variety of 2024 summer programs offered through our athletics, dance and cultural programs that include a broad variety of recreational programming (Shotaken Karate, Hip Hop Dance, Gymnastics, Sportscamp at the Sportsplex, Skyhawks, Art & Science Camp, and many more).  

Key Responsibilities

This position will assist participant in following the program instructor’s direction in a variety of programs including behavior modification and/or run parallel activities to keep participant engaged.  This position will strive to provide a positive inclusive programming experience for children and young adults with special needs. Each one on one Inclusion Aide is responsible for ensuring a successful and safe program experience for each participant. The Special Recreation Division will provide in-service training on how to work with participants with special needs, i.e. parallel activities, behavioral management skills and redirection techniques.

Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills

Ideal candidates must have a genuine interest in enhancing the recreation experience for each program participant.

 

Experience with behavioral management and adaptive equipment is preferred. College coursework in a recreation, education or a clinically based therapy is ideal, but not needed.

 

Generally scheduled for approximately 5-15 hours, based on summer programming.  Must be available throughout the summer months June through August weekdays mornings/afternoons/evenings and weekends. 

Compensation & Benefits

Hourly rate for this position is $14.00 (depending on experience).
