The Village of Orland Park, a dynamic, progressive, growing community seeks a Recreation Division Manager to provide leadership and oversight for the day-to-day operations of the Special Events Division of the Recreation and Parks Department. This position is an integral member of the Recreation and Parks department’s leadership team.
The Recreation Division Manager will oversee all aspects of Village special events including event strategy, development and features; contracting of entertainment and services; day of event execution; budget development and oversight; purchase of supplies; as well as post-event evaluations. Position will supervise full-time and part-time staff, coordinate services with Village departments and external vendors, create RFP's for event services, produce and approve website, social media and marketing materials. This position will also lead and coordinate special event sponsorships and cultivate relationships/partnerships with the business community.
This position will be the primary producer of the Centennial Park West Concert Series. This will include researching national and local artists, negotiating and managing contracts, driving all marketing efforts, formulating and tracking Concert Series budgets, strategizing sales efforts, proposing ticket sales pricing and creating on-line ticket sales landing page; devising, coordinating and leading all day-of-show efforts and setting staff work assignments, reconciling all event expenses and post-event evaluation. In addition this position will directly produce and coordinate other events as needed, including but not limited to the Veterans Liberty Run/Walk, Turkey Trot and 4th of July festivities.
This position sets short term and long term goals and objectives for the Special Events Division and staff in collaboration with the department director and staff. The position participates in performance management programs, establishes and coordinates the data collection of Division performance measures. Reviews reports and makes recommendations for improvement. Furthermore the position develops and updates operational and safety procedures; recommends changes in division policies and procedures; prepares and maintains records and reports; establishes specifications for projects, supplies, and materials.
The Recreation Division Manager supervises the full-time Special Events Manager, and the part-time Special Events Coordinator and the part-time Program Coordinator as well as contractors engaged in implementing recreation department functions. This position participates in the recruitment, evaluation, motivation and discipline of staff; makes recommendations concerning the hiring, discipline and dismissal of staff; reviews and ensures the timely completion of employee evaluations, personal action and other forms; ensures the accuracy of personal payroll submissions; prioritizes scheduling appropriately approves overtime and compensatory time in conjunction with the director; responds to employee issues; and trains and mentors staff.

The ideal candidate will also have leadership and management skills that promote team spirit and enhance the department’s service delivery. The ideal candidate must have well developed interpersonal and oral/written communication skills.
This position requires a bachelor’s degree in recreation and parks administration, public/business administration or a related field. A master’s degree in a related field and CPRP designation is highly preferred. The position requires seven to ten years of progressive professional experience working in a Recreation department or related organization, as well as the experience managing/supervising professional and part-time staff.
Candidates must have experience running large scale special events, including but not limited to musical events, fireworks displays, running races, farmers markets, fall themed, and holiday events as well as a demonstrated ability to cultivate and develop mutually beneficial relationships with prospective sponsors; including the delivery of sponsor benefits..
Strong budgeting, fiscal management, solid judgment, supportive and motivating leadership style and a partnership oriented attitude are required. Strong analytical and computer skills are also needed. Experience with Microsoft Excel is preferred.

The salary for this position is +/- $90,000; depending on qualifications.
