The Village of Orland Park Special Recreation Division is currently seeking a mature, outgoing, positive, well-rounded individual to fill the role of Part-time Senior Special Recreation Program Coordinator, to oversee the coordination of the weekly general programs, 1:1 inclusive placements and fundraising events. 

 

We offer positive and healthy recreational programming focused on leisure, social, educational, and vocational opportunities within the community for individuals with special needs with a team of talented, dedicated, knowledgeable, and experienced staff.  Special recreation staff is committed to meeting the unique individual leisure time needs and positively impacting the lives of individuals with special needs every day by focusing on community outreach and re-integration.     

Key Responsibilities

This important role will:

  • screen, evaluate and assign inclusive placements per ADA requests from registration
  • develop, plan, implement and evaluate programming for Special Recreation
  • plan special events to meet programming needs
  • coordinate staffing and transportation needs for special programming/events
  • ensure program objectives are being met
  • motivate staff to encourage creative ideas and ensure a successful program
  • communicate with parents and program participants as needed
  • oversee administrative function including preparation of accident reports, timesheets, registration forms and schedules
  • maintain and order supplies/equipment/inventory as needed
  • ensure budget compliance and oversee expenditures relative to programming
  • coordinate details for large scale events and community service volunteers

Coordinating the availability of fleet vehicles and presiding over all transportation needs for the program, including but not limited to scheduling routes, drivers, participant changes, and serving as back-up CDL or van driver is an important factor of this position.  

Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills

High School Diploma and valid driver's license is required.  Associate's or Bachelor's degree in the recreation or education field is preferred.  A minimum of two (2) years related administrative experience is required. 

 

Strong oral and written communication skills, a great attitude, superb organizational skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office is a must.

 

25-29 hours per week.  Mainly daytime shifts, but some evening and Saturday availability will be necessary.  Schedules will be made ahead of time when convenient.

 

Must obtain and maintain medical certification to drive village vehicles upon hire.  CDL Class 'B' must be obtained within six (6) months of hire.
