The Village of Orland Park Special Recreation Division offers positive and healthy recreation programming focused on leisure, social, educational, and vocational opportunities within the community for individuals with special needs with a team of talented, dedicated, knowledgeable, and experienced staff. Programming also includes the largest south suburban community of Special Olympics in the state of Illinois with over 300 participants. Our special recreation staff is committed to meeting the unique individual leisure time needs and positively impacting the lives of individuals with special needs every day by focusing on community outreach and re-integration. We are currently seeking an energetic, well-rounded, mature individual to fill the role of Part-time Program Assistant, providing general assistance for Special Olympics, large scale events, fundraisers, overnight programs and general special recreation programs.
This key individual will order, maintain and inventory Special Olympic Uniforms and equipment throughout the year; provide assistance to the Recreation Supervisor in the oversight of Special Olympic tournaments and teams including transportation planning needs, scheduling, facilities and staffing coordination; and provide assistance to ensure that scheduling objectives are met for the Special Olympics programming, as well as respond to emergent transportation issues when needed.
Other duties include providing support in scheduling and planning other large scale special recreation events and fundraisers, providing coverage onsite for events with lead staff, along with taking an active role in leading specified general programs (weekday and evening), day trips (3 to 4 per season) and planned events (4 to 5 per year).
This role will also complete all documentation for the assigned projects, purchase required program supplies for Special Recreation Division programming and events by preparing all necessary purchase requisitions and credit card requests for supplies, work orders, ect., and ensure compliance to budget for all expenditures.
High School Diploma and valid driver's license is required. Associate's or Bachelor's degree in recreation or therapeutic recreation field is preferred. A minimum of two (2) years working in a recreation, therapeutic or related field and experience with ADLs is also preferred.
Experience/training implementing behavior management techniques and having knowledge of cognitive and developmental impairments is highly recommended. A great attitude, excellent communication skills, superb organizational skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office is a must.
Must obtain and maintain medical certification to drive village vehicles upon hire. CDL Class 'B' must be obtained.
