The Village of Orland Park, a dynamic and progressive community of approximately 60,000 residents, seeks to fill a full-time Property Maintenance and Code Enforcement Inspector position in our Development Services Department.
This position will work closely with other inspectors in conducting regulatory inspections and enforcement of all ordinances, policies, rules, and regulations of the Village related to property/site conditions and structure safety for new and existing buildings. This includes provisions regarding the existence of nuisances and property maintenance regulations endangering the public. The understanding of construction elements is another essential part of this position.
Responsibilities include the ability to enforce and understand all court action procedures which insure existing buildings and sites are maintained to minimum Village Code regulations; review and comment on plans for new and existing building establishments for major alterations to existing establishments; and performing annual business license inspections. Other responsibilities include maintaining accurate work records, research property ownership and enforcement of the Rental Housing Code.
This position will receive and process all complaints and inquiries related to enforcement of Village Property Maintenance and Housing Codes. The inspector will dispatch contractors, conduct personal inspections, and follow up to ensure compliance through legal notices and court actions when appropriate. The position may require the back-up for new construction inspectors when needed during staff shortages or at special times. May assist with health inspections as needed.
Must possess a valid Illinois driver’s license. Two-year certificate from college or technical schools and/or comparable related experience is highly preferred. Experience in building trades, health, and/or code enforcement required. ICC certifications preferred. Ability to perform technical inspections and make corrective recommendations, ability to maintain effective working relationships, and excellent oral and written skills are also required. Must have strong customer service skills and be comfortable and effective handing difficult interpersonal issues.
This position requires the acquisition and maintenance of a valid Property Maintenance Certification though the International Code Council (ICC) within 6 months of hire. A licensed construction professional will be given high regards.
Salary starting at $25.93 hourly ($53,934.40 annual) depending on qualifications.
