The Village of Orland Park's Recreation Department offers many programs to support the needs of our community.  The After School Pals Program is designed to offer a fun environment that is positive, supervised, and safe filled with after school activities for children in kindergarten through 5th grade. This program offers a daily snack, organized games, crafts, monthly field trips, weekly trips to the Sportsplex, gym time at Franklin Loebe Center, homework help and much, much more so parents can rest assured their children are enjoying structured after school activities and you can make a difference in their experience.

 

 

Key Responsibilities

As an After School Pals Instructor, you will supervise school age children including providing assistance with homework, planning/implementing/supervising various activities, and providing general assistance to the program coordinator.  Most importantly, instructors will ensure a fun after school experience for all program participants while ensuring their safety.  This position will manage the entry and exit procedures to ensure the highest level of safety of children.

 

Program runs in accordance with the School District 135 school year calendar from late August through early June.  Approximately 15 – 25 hours per week with scheduled hours varying scheduled hours weekdays between 1:00 pm to 6:00 pm, minimum of 3 - 5 shifts per week.   

 

 

 

 

Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills

You must be at least 18 years of age with reliable transportation.  At least one year of experience working with children ages 5 to 12 years old is required. One year related college education or equivalent experience in child development, childcare or other related areas is preferred.  Must have excellent interpersonal and communication skills in relating to children and parents/guardians. The ability and interest in working and communicating with children is required.
